In this day and age social media is at the forefront of our lives, it can be a journey of struggle or luck.
I have been photographing for around 10 years now and finding the right platform for exposure continues to be a daily challenge of thought and patience. It is in fact one reason for even starting this blog. I will admit it is also a great way for me to get my thoughts out and also hope that my work does inspire others on their own journey.
Currently the social media I use most is instagram, this also links to my Facebook page. The second most platform I use is view bug, if you have not seen it check it out http://www.viewbug.com
I have discovered another platform and rather than just give it a go I thought I would write about my experience on it and how it stacks up against other options in the market. I have no idea how this will go and I am in no way obtaining support from this site to wrote this so it will be an honest view of a photographers journey to see if I gain any additional exposure through it.
The site is called YouPic and according to the creators it is a place for photographers to gain recognition and education.
Sign up was nice and easy by linking Facebook however this is not a preferred option of mine. The app itself is sleek and very easy to navigate through. (A few little bugs here and there but nothing of major concern)
An area I find great about this and that seems to stand out from the others out there is the education and sharing side of this. I have mentioned earlier that I hate when other photographers are so secretive around location or techniques.
To be continued…….
Well it’s been the first day into using this and I can start seeing some potential here…. but the bugs in the app are starting to get to me. I have also discovered that there is payment options for this site, not something I expected so my use may be cut short on this. Whilst it does offer a free option there is also a premium option to pay for.
A few tid bits I have discovered that there is a levelling system involved, the more interaction, more posts, the more points you get. Once to level 10 it will allow you to blog on there as well (or just pay for premium and you can blog away.
I’m now at level 7 so once at level 10 I will give the blogging a go. I have picked up a couple of followers so my next step will be to get some more photos up, follow some people and let the interaction begin. I will also track to see how much traffic gets pushed to this site to see if it makes a difference.
Fingers crossed let’s check back in two weeks from now (hopefully the app is updated to remove these bugs) and decide if this is a social media point worth spending the time on.
